Four Spiritual Disciplines
Parlor – 9:00 am
Too often we think in negative terms when we hear the word ‘discipline’ as a punishment. Even the term ‘disciplines’ can be construed in a negative way especially if we think we need to learn an unpleasant way of being that will help build Christian ‘character’.
“Discipline, however, really means to teach and a disciple is a student – not a recipient of behavioral consequences.” (Daniel Siegel)
Spiritual Disciplines in the Christian tradition vary, but the main purpose is to help us continue to develop a closer relationship with The Source of Life.
What is being offered through the month of August is a taste of four disciplines. Come join Pastor Donna to find out which discipline might spark an interest in you.
August 4: Centering Prayer
August 11: Journaling
August 18: Guided Meditation
August 25: Mandalas

Daily Walk With The Psalms
Sunday Morning Discussion Group
October 6 through November 10
9:00 O’clock
FCC member, Chuck Harper, published a collection of modern psalms in 2018. This book, PSALMS 151-300, will be used by the Sunday morning discussion group in a six week exploration of the life of faith in a postmodern world. Participants in the group will read and reflect on one psalm each day of the week. Then, at Sunday morning sessions, those wishing to do so may share with the group an insight or question from their reading to which they would like others to respond.
Copies of PSALMS 151-300 may be purchased from Chuck or at the Church office ($15.00).
A Memorial Garden
Several of the families of deceased Church members have asked about a memorial area, garden or walkway in remembrance of their loved ones. The committee in charge has looked at several areas on the Church grounds and selected the atrium garden area within the blue curved wall.
The plan would be to create a brick pathway with engraved bricks commemorating a loved one.
Engraved bricks such as….
In Loving Memory MARY SMITH 1935-2017
Remembering JOHN SMITH 1935-2017
A Faithful Friend JOHN SMITH 1935-2017
Heaven Blessed MARY SMITH 1935-2017
The Engraved Bricks estimated cost would be $20 each and be embedded in a landscaped pathway, a memorial to those we have lost.
Are you interested in purchasing a brick or two? Let us know whose name you would like engraved on the brick, the birth and death years and select the message from the above examples. The person may or may not have been a First Christian Church member.
Please email Jack LeSage jacklsg1@gmail.com or Aletta Wilson alettatw@gmail.com with the information. No need for money at this time.
We will keep you informed as to the progress of the Memorial Pathway.
