Disciples News

Unity is Our Polar Star!
Our culture – and often the church – is deeply divided, and the rifts seem to be growing. What does our faith have to say to this?
You’re invited to join Disciples of Christ friends from all over the Southwest Region on Saturday, September 14th at Monte Vista Christian Church as together we engage the topic of Unity.
Our keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Newell Williams, renowned Stone-Campbell scholar and president of Brite Divinity School.  Dr. Williams will be helping us think about our historic Disciples commitment to unity, the difficulties inherent in appeals to togetherness, and what the Disciples of Christ have to offer a fractured world.  Online registration is available now at https://disciplesidentity.eventbrite.com/

Anti-Racism Training / Certification Pre-Event

On Friday, Sept 13th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Monte Vista Christian Church, April Johnson, Minister of Reconciliation for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and David Bell, Minister for Indigenous Justice with Disciples Home Missions, will be leading “The Stories We Carry”  – This one-day anti-racism training event is designed to guide participants in an introduction to the analysis of systemic racism.

Participants are invited to examine the narratives in which we have been given to understand racism and to discover the role they can play in developing a new, life-giving narrative in the ministries and communities where they serve.  Participants and facilitators will listen and share stories in large and small group as well as make plans for next steps toward reconciliation.
