The heat is on! It must be summer in Las Cruces. I have tasted all four seasons with you and now head into my second summer. Yep, I’m still hanging around, continuing to enjoy Las Cruses, exploring the eastern areas of New Mexico and western parts of Texas, and thankful for the opportunity to serve as you Interim Minister.
A reminder that a rule of thumb for the timeframe for an interim ministry is generally 1 ½ to 2 years – with wiggle room on either end. The work of this interim period is not always visible, but I promise, the work that needs to be done is getting done. Your Search Committee is meeting frequently and working hard and will continue to do so for several more months.
So, what can you do through this waiting time? Well, pray for patience for one thing. Then pray some more. Pray for the Search Committee as they discern next steps, when they start reading minister profiles, when they determine who will be a wonderful candidate to be present to you. Pray even some more that they know you support them in this process. Ask God to bless their work, and to also bless this congregation during this challenging and wonderful time of change.
Please know that I hold First Christian Church in my prayers as well – for all of the above reasons and more. You are a remarkable congregation, a blessing to Las Cruces, to each other, and me as well.
Blessings,
Donna
