CONGREGATIONAL UNDERSTANDING OF HEALTHY BOUNDARY ISSUES

Why boundaries and what’s all this talk about boundaries?
Why are there clergy boundaries?
How do clergy boundaries impact my relationship with my clergyperson?

These are a few of the questions that arise in congregations today about the issue of boundaries. The need for boundary training for clergy arose in the 1980s amid the sexual abuse scandal that surfaced within the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church was not the only faith tradition to have denied the issue of clergy abuse.

The Rev. Marie Fortune founded Sacred Trust Institute to address this issue with clergy within congregations through various training modalities. Over time there emerged a broader understanding of boundary topics that needed to be talked about to help keep the clergy and the congregation healthy and safe.
Please join facilitator, Barb Doerrer-Peacock, Associate Conference Minister of the Southwest Conference, UCC on Saturday, February 16 from 9:00am-12:30pm.
