Please join us on Pentecost Sunday, the 20th of May. New members will be joining us on this day. And we celebrate.
You may not know that the color red is the traditional liturgical color for this day, depicting the flames and the passion experienced on Pentecost. Yes, please wear red!
Did you know that Pentecost literally means fifty? In Jesus’s day, Pentecost was the Greek term for the Jewish Feast of Weeks because it fell on the 50th day after the ceremony of the barley sheaf during the Passover observances. It marked the beginning of the first fruits.
For Jesus’s followers, however, Pentecost marks the end of Jesus’ earthly life and the coming of the Holy Spirit — the paraclete, the advocate, the comforter. Christians traditionally celebrate Pentecost 50 days after Easter, recognizing the church’s missionary age — which continues to this day.
